Safeguarding at Meritton British International School
At Meritton British International School (MBIS), safeguarding means promoting the welfare of every student and protecting them from harm. We believe that academic success must go hand-in-hand with students’ physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Creating a safe, supportive, and respectful environment is central to who we are as a school.
The MBIS Safeguarding Team ensures that someone is always available to listen to students, respond to concerns, and take action when needed. We work proactively to build trust, foster resilience, and make sure every child feels safe, valued, and heard.
What Safeguarding Means at MBIS
Safeguarding at MBIS goes beyond child protection. It is about ensuring that every student can learn, grow, and thrive in an environment where their welfare is the highest priority. We integrate safeguarding into daily school life, embedding it within teaching, learning, and community relationships.
Safeguarding Policies and Standards
Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy is guided by:
- Thai legislation and regulations
- The UK Department for Education’s statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
- International safeguarding standards
- The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), which states that the best interests of the child must always come first
We also take guidance from leading international organisations that provide benchmarks for safeguarding in schools worldwide. At MBIS, the welfare of every child is paramount.
A Whole-School Responsibility
Safeguarding is not the responsibility of one person or team alone. At MBIS, all members of our school community share the duty of care to protect students. Regular safeguarding training is an essential part of our culture, ensuring that staff are equipped to recognise risks, respond appropriately, and act in the best interests of children.
Our policies and procedures are reviewed regularly to remain current, effective, and aligned with best practice in both Thai and international contexts.
