Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award
At Meritton British International School, we are proud to offer secondary students the opportunity to take part in the internationally recognised Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Starting from the 2025-26 academic year, the Award will be open to students in Years 9–11 who are aged 14 or older.
Beginning the Journey with the Bronze Award
Students will start their experience by working towards the Bronze Award, which typically takes a minimum of six months to complete. This stage introduces them to the principles of the programme while challenging them to build valuable life skills.
The Four Key Areas of the Duke of Edinburgh Programme
The Award framework is designed to support holistic personal growth and is built around four key areas:
- Voluntary Service: giving back to the community and making a positive difference
- Physical Recreation: improving health and well-being through regular activity
- Skills: developing talents, hobbies, and practical abilities
- Adventurous Journey: undertaking an expedition that fosters teamwork, resilience, and independence
Through these experiences, students develop confidence, leadership, and perseverance that will serve them well both in school and beyond.
Why the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Matters
Participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award helps students discover their potential, embrace challenges, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. It is a recognised symbol of commitment and achievement, valued by universities and employers worldwide.
