Donation Drive: Happy Children’s Day

On Friday 13th January, three students from a Thai hill tribe community learning centre in Ban Sob Pa Luang (ศูนย์การเรียนรู้ชุมชนชาวไทยภูเขา บ้านสบผาหลวง หรือ ศศช. บ้านสบผาหลวง) travelled a long distance to Meritton British International School. Thai hill tribe community learning centres are governed by the Office of the Non-Formal and Informal Education (NFE) (สำนักงานส่งเสริมการศึกษานอกระบบและการศึกษาตามอัธยาศัย หรือ กศน.). There are currently eleven learning centres in Mae Chaem district, Chiang Mai as follows:
- Ban Mae Hae Nai (ศศช. บ้านแม่แฮใน)
- Ban Kong Bot (ศศช. บ้านกองบอด)
- Ban Kong Bot Tai (ศศช. บ้านกองบอดใต้)
- Ban Mae Pe Kee (ศศช. บ้านแม่ปิคี)
- Ban Sob Pa Luang (ศศช. บ้านสบผาหลวง)
- Ban Om Sung (ศศช. บ้านอมสูง)
- Ban Tuan (ศศช. บ้านถวน)
- Ban Kho Tha (ศศช. บ้านเคาะท่า)
- Ban San Pu Loei (ศศช. บ้านสันปูเลย)
- Ban Kew Sa Waek Tai (ศศช. บ้านกิ่วสะแวกใต้)
- Ban Kew Sa Waek Mai (ศศช. บ้านกิ่วสะแวกใหม่)
Our Year four hosts
were overjoyed to welcome their first guests of the year. The new friends were initially very shy, but once they began to study and play together, they became good friends.
We raised nearly 20,000 baht from Meritton parents and fair visitors through donation drive activities at last year’s ‘A Very Merrytton Christmas Fair’ in December. All of the goodwill was delivered to students in Mae Chaem with care. We believe that a full stomach leads young students to better learning.
Thank you Meritton staff, parents, and especially our lovely students for the kind support. As an international school in Chiang Mai that provides Values-based Education, we hope to have more opportunities to contribute to our communities in the future.
