Book Week
Book Week (or Reading Week) has always been one of Meritton’s most cherished events. Each year, participation grows, and we are delighted to see students eagerly taking part—because we all agree that reading is incredibly important!
Throughout the week at Meritton British International School, students took part in a variety of exciting activities. There were English competitions to test their spelling skills, a bookshop-themed art competition to showcase their creativity and artistic talents, and an Extreme Reading Photo Challenge, where children and families captured playful and imaginative reading moments. We also held a Book-Themed Character Costume Day, where students brought their favourite literary characters to life.
Friday’s special guest—Geronimo Stilton from the Geronimo Stilton Media Group! He visited the Meritton library, and we can’t wait to read his next big scoop about Chiang Mai, Thailand (if there is one in the works!).
Guest Author
Year 1 and Year 2 students were excited to meet children’s book author Ms Jacinta Farragher, creator of the wonderful story Joy’s Journey. Listening to the author bring her own story to life was a memorable and enriching experience. The session invited young learners to embark on Joy’s adventure, exploring themes of gratitude, friendship, and self-discovery alongside the character.
This special activity not only made Joy’s Journey more vivid but also allowed students to experience the beauty of storytelling through Ms Jacinta’s creative lens. Immersing themselves in the story’s themes and emotions, they developed a deeper appreciation for the art of crafting meaningful narratives and the magic that unfolds within the pages of a book.
Book Vendors
A huge thank you to our wonderful friends at Little Lion Children’s Bookshop and Asia Books, whose expertise and passion for literature helped students discover exciting new reads right here on campus. Their support made the event even more vibrant and engaging.
Book Swap Corner
Additionally, we organised a book swap, giving students the opportunity to exchange their gently used books, ensuring they find new homes while discovering fresh reads without having to buy new ones.
Guest Readers
Thank you to the wonderful parents who volunteered their time to bring stories to life for our students. Reading for others is no easy task, but our guest readers went above and beyond, sharing their love of books with enthusiasm and heart.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible support of our entire community. We are deeply grateful to the students, teachers, support staff, and especially the parents, whose enthusiasm and cooperation made Book Week such a success.
