Day 1 – Pre-Nursery & Nursery: Sensory Cultural Beginnings
Tiny Steps into Thai Culture!
Today, our youngest Meritton students (Pre-Nursery & Nursery) kicked off Thai Language, Culture, and History Week with a delightful Thai Picnic on campus.
Education at this age is all about sensory experiences. By listening to the folktale of the “Red Turtle (เต่าแดง),” tasting traditional Thai desserts, and watching a live animal show by the Wow Animal team, our little ones are building positive associations with the culture that surrounds them.
Even our youngest learnerpas are beginning their journey of respecting and enjoying the traditions of our host country.

Day 2 – Years 1 & 2: The Art & Science of Silk
From Cocoon to Craft: A Lesson in Patience and Heritage
Years 1 and 2 ventured out to the Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture today!
This field trip was a fantastic blend of science and art. Students rotated through learning stations to witness the full life cycle of silkworms understanding exactly how the famous Thai silk is produced.
Beyond just observation, they got hands on! From creating art using cocoons to making mulberry juice, the students learned that culture is often rooted in nature and agriculture.
Understanding the local industry and effort behind traditional crafts helps our students appreciate the hard work that goes into Thai heritage.

Day 3 – Years 6, 7 & 8: History & Heritage in the Old City
Heritage Exploring the Heart of Lanna History
Our Upper Primary and Middle School students (Years 6, 7, & 8) spent the day immersing themselves in the rich history of the Chiang Mai Old City.
It was a day of diverse learning: Economic History: Exploring the Treasury Museum to understand the evolution of Thai currency. Hands on Art: A tie-dye workshop, connecting them to textile traditions. tram Local Landmarks: A tram tour visiting the stunning Gates and for corners and the first temple of the city, Wat Chiang Man.
To be a true global citizen, one must understand the history of the place they call home. Today, our students connected the past to the present, deepening their respect for Chiang Mai’s legacy.

Day 4 – Years 9, 10 & 11: Preserving Lanna Wisdom
Keeping Traditions Alive: Secondary Lanna Workshop
Our Years 9, 10, and 11 students stepped away from the classroom and into the Lanna Wisdom School for a day of intensive cultural immersion.
This trip was designed to be purely hands-on. Our students engaged in:
– Cooking authentic “Pad Mii”
– Painting traditional Bo-Sang umbrellas
-Writing ancient Lanna Script
-Playing the powerful “Sa-bud-Chai” Drum
By physically practicing these arts, our students aren’t just observing culture, they are helping to preserve it. This deep engagement fosters a profound respect for local wisdom, a key trait of a Meritton Global Citizen.

Day 5 – Years 3, 4 & 5: Conservation & Compassion
Gentle Giants & Nature’s Classroom
Years 3, 4, and 5 had an unforgettable experience today at the Pang Dee Dee Elephant Camp. This trip wasn’t about riding; it was about caring.
Students learned about the behavior of Thailand’s national animal by preparing vitamins, feeding them, and observing them bathe in their natural habitat.
Empathy and environmental stewardship are at the core of our curriculum. By caring for these elephants, our students learn that respecting a country’s culture also means respecting its wildlife and environment.

Day 6 – Reception A & B: Myths & Movement
Bringing Mythology to Life!
To wrap up our Thai Language, Culture, and History Week, our Reception students embarked on a “Himmaphan Forest Adventure.”
The highlight of the morning was a spectacular live Khon (Masked Dance) demonstration. Students watched wide-eyed as Hanuman and Suvannamaccha performed a short set, introducing them to the magic of Thai performing arts.
Storytelling and dance are universal languages. By exposing our students to these classical arts early, we ignite their imagination and open their minds to the beauty of diverse cultures.
