Welcome to Meritton British International School
At Meritton, we believe children learn best when the curriculum balances academic excellence with strong values. Our approach combines a British educational experience with Values-based Education, fostering a growth mindset and nurturing well-rounded individuals.
Located in Chiang Mai, Meritton is a community where respect, responsibility, kindness, and a positive attitude towards learning and life are central to everything we do.

VALUES AT THE HEART
OF EVERYTHING WE DO.
We believe that education is not just about academic achievement. It is also about nurturing character and preparing students to thrive in all aspects of life. That is why we follow the Values-based Education (VbE) approach, which helps create a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment where students can excel both personally and academically.

Values-based Education
Values-based Education (VbE) is an approach to learning that puts values at the centre of everyday school life. It creates a strong learning environment that enhances academic attainment and develops students’ social and relationship skills that last throughout their lives. VbE is about learning how to be a good friend, about respect, being responsible and resilient; about empathy, kindness and honesty. At Meritton, we model and integrate these qualities into everyday school life, helping young learners grow in confidence and maturity.
Thematic Approach
In Primary Y1-6 Science, Geography and History are combined and integrated to form Units of Exploration. Other subject areas, such as English, Maths or Art support the theme wherever possible. Thematic learning enables students to make connections between different areas of learning and real life experiences and this assists with understanding and skill acquisition. Student engagement and levels of motivation are also significantly higher. Subjects are separated in Lower Secondary, however teachers continue to use a thematic approach to make links between them.
Enquiry-based Learning
Enquiry-based Learning (EbL) offers students the opportunity to take more responsibility in their learning, to explore areas of interest, and to go on a learning journey of exploration and discovery. EbL increases student motivation and is well known to improve critical and creative thinking.
Mindfulness Inspiration
By introducing mindfulness early in life, we are giving children a tool to develop inner calm, balance and resilience that will be available to them through to adulthood. Using simple, meditative techniques, daily mindfulness at school encourages the development of skills like self-regulation, good judgement and patience. It works with values and enquiry by promoting self-awareness and the ability to reflect on the consequences of values-based actions.
Four Pillars of Learning
Integrated into the school’s academic pathway, Meritton offers a unique and holistic educational experience that is achieved through Four Pillars of Learning.

Early Years
Pre-Nursery to Reception (Ages 2 - 5 years)
In the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), children develop through play, active learning, and critical thinking across the Seven Areas of Learning. A well-prepared classroom environment plays a vital role in creating a safe and supportive space where children can build social skills alongside peers in their age group. At the same time, values education and simple mindfulness techniques help children focus, regulate their emotions, and prepare their minds for meaningful learning.
Primary School
Year 1 to Year 6 (Ages 5 - 11 years)
Our Primary School follows the Cambridge International Curriculum, offering a strong foundation in core subjects while nurturing curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. Learning is interactive and discussion-based, with pupils engaging in hands-on, project-based activities that build critical thinking, leadership, and teamwork skills. We support each child’s personal growth, helping them discover their interests and develop into confident, independent learners.
Secondary School
Year 7 to Year 11 (Ages 11 - 16 years)
Meritton’s learning journey continues with the Cambridge Lower Secondary programme, a three-year course that builds on the foundations of primary education and prepares students for the next academic stage: the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
The IGCSE offers students the opportunity to earn globally recognised qualifications. It also lays a strong foundation for advanced study in the AS and A Level programmes offered in Years 12–13.
