School Safety
Safety is the foundation of happy learning.
When children feel safe, they are ready to learn, explore, and grow with confidence. Schools must therefore prioritise creating an environment that is safe both physically and emotionally, ensuring that every student feels secure and cared for throughout their school day.
Comprehensive measures in design, security, cleanliness, and staff training are implemented to ensure that the school remains “the safest place for every child.”

A Safe School Environment
First layer of security: The entrance gate prevents access by unauthorised individuals. Security personnel are on duty to monitor and record all vehicle entries and exits.
Second layer of security: Internal access is controlled through a facial recognition and registered ID card system that records the entry and exit times of all students and staff.
Safe and Standardised Buildings
Every detail, including the height of railings, the spacing and slope of stairs, the design of fire escapes, and the type of door handles, has been planned to ensure safe use for all age groups.

A Playground for Learning
The playground is an outdoor learning space where children can run, climb, jump, and lie down freely without worry. Soft grass and large sand areas help cushion falls and reduce impact.
All play equipment is sturdy, well maintained, and free from sharp edges to minimise unexpected accidents.
Teachers are always on duty to supervise, ensuring that the area remains safe and well organised.
Minor tumbles, slips, or bumps, such as falling from a swing or knocking into a tree, are part of growing up. Learning to assess distance, manage risk, and recognise personal limits are valuable life skills developed through experience.
Clear and Caring Communication
Signs such as fire exits, food station markers, “no running” notices, and “wet floor” warnings are clearly displayed to promote order, awareness, and safety across the school.
Cleanliness and Hygiene
Regular cleaning and sanitising are carried out, especially in frequently touched areas such as children’s toys, food containers, and door handles, to prevent the spread of illness, particularly during the rainy season.
Professional and Well-Trained Staff
Those working closely with young people must be skilled in management and problem solving. Continuous training and professional development are essential.
All teachers and staff receive regular training in emergency response, including fire prevention, flood safety, intruder awareness, earthquake preparedness, and basic first aid.
Comprehensive Rules and Regulations
School rules are established to ensure safety and wellbeing, such as:
- No running inside buildings to prevent accidents.
- Separate toilets for students and adults to maintain privacy and safety.
- Wearing the correct school uniform to ensure neatness, security, and clear identification of students.
These are the essential safety standards that every school should uphold.
At Meritton British International School, safety is always the top priority. Parents can rest assured that their children are cared for with the highest level of safety and attention throughout every school day.
