Resilience in Action: Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Practice Journey

From Friday, January 9th to Saturday, January 10th, our Bronze Award participants took a significant step forward in their Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award journey. This Practice Journey was not just a trek through nature; it was a rigorous test of character, teamwork, and self-reliance.

Navigating the Challenge

Over the course of two days, the students covered nearly 20 km of varied terrain. Unlike a guided tour, the students were the masters of their own path. Equipped with maps and compasses, they navigated their own routes, proving that they can think critically and solve problems under pressure.

Voices from the Trail

“The hardest part wasn’t the distance; it was trusting our navigation when the path got steep. But when we finally reached the campsite together, the sense of relief and pride was incredible. We learned more about teamwork in 48 hours than we ever could in a classroom.” — Bronze Award Participant

The experience pushed many out of their comfort zones as they:

  • Managed their own logistics: Carrying all necessary gear and supplies in their packs.

  • Established Camp: Setting up tents and creating a home for the night under the stars.

  • Culinary Independence: Preparing their own hot meals using portable stoves—a highlight for many after a long day of hiking.

Looking Ahead: The Qualifying Journey

While the tired feet may be temporary, the skills gained are permanent. This successful Practice Journey serves as the foundation for the upcoming Qualifying Journey. We are incredibly proud of their progress and look forward to seeing them apply their newfound expertise to pass their final assessment.
