School Policies and Handbooks
PARENT HANDBOOK
General information about students’ well-being and their first day at school. Parents are usually invited to a parent orientation at the beginning of the academic year, where they can learn more about Meritton’s processes and have the opportunity to purchase school uniforms.
Please note that the information on this page is subject to change at the school’s discretion.
Life At School
For the safety of all in the school community and for the effective control and operation of the campus environment, we operate a closed campus. This means that once children are at school they may not leave unless on a planned educational visit. Similarly, access to the campus is controlled through the School Office.
Visitors will be welcomed to the school and assisted in the first instance by the Security team and the School Office team.
Vehicles and Parking
We have ample parking spaces at the front, the side, and the rear of the school for all members of the school community who require them. We seek to avoid noise and air pollution, and disturbance or inconvenience to our neighbours, wherever possible. To this end, and for the safety of all members of the community, we kindly encourage you to model the following behaviours:
- Drive slowly and with care and mindfulness in and around the school.
- Exhibit courtesy and patience to other members of the community wherever the opportunity arises.
- Be a responsible custodian of our earth and switch off your engine whilst parked.
- Park with care, in the allocated bays and be mindful that other parents and children need equal access to the drop-off spot.
- Be a good neighbour and help the environment by seeing if it is possible to car-pool with other members of the school community.
- If you live nearby, walking or cycling is a great opportunity for family time, exercise and to enjoy nature and the seasons.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all students develop healthy eating habits, appreciate a variety of foods, and benefit from a safe, balanced, and inclusive school meal programme.
Policy Statement
The school policy is that food should not be brought in from home. All students are expected to participate in the meals and snacks provided by the school. This approach encourages children to try foods that may be new or unfamiliar to them, and to value nutrition and health benefits over personal preference.
We encourage parents to support this policy by guiding their children to recognise the importance of eating a wide variety of foods, even those they may not particularly enjoy, as this is beneficial to their long-term development.
Rationale
This policy has been carefully considered and is based on the following key factors:
-
Health and Safety
-
All food served at school meets consistent hygiene and nutritional standards
-
Centralised provision minimises the risk of food allergies and cross-contamination
-
-
Inclusivity and Community
-
Shared meals foster a sense of equality and belonging among students
-
This approach reduces opportunities for discomfort, comparison, or exclusion
-
-
Simplicity and Care
-
A standardised meal routine allows smoother lunchtime processes
-
It ensures easier supervision and care from staff
-
Provision of Food at School
-
The school provides healthy and nutritious snacks and lunches each day to ensure every child receives a balanced diet
-
Lunch menus include both Thai and international options
-
Morning and afternoon snacks may include fruit, sandwiches, and other wholesome items
-
Foods high in sugar or salt, as well as artificial flavourings and colourings, are not provided
Special Dietary Requirements
The school recognises that a small number of students may have specific medical or dietary needs. In cases of severe food allergies or other documented health conditions, the school is willing to consider individual arrangements. Parents in this situation should contact their child’s homeroom teacher to arrange an appropriate solution.
