Our Story and Ethos

About Meritton:

Founded in 2018, Meritton British International School is a small, family-based international school. English is the main language of instruction, while Thai and, for older children, Mandarin, are also taught.

Small-sized classes and a purpose-built campus provide a safe and intimate environment which encourages strong student-teacher relationships and meaningful family involvement. The campus includes a swimming pool, grass sports field, covered hard court and lots of green areas designated as playgrounds, outdoor climbing and vegetable gardens. Our student population includes over 10 different nationalities.

Setting and Environment:

Located on the doorstep of the famous old city of Chiang Mai and within minutes of the beautiful nature afforded by the surrounding forests and mountains, the school aims to provide a program of learning which puts values at the heart of education. Meritton’s Values-based Education program engages students, teachers and parents in regular learning activities, from values lessons and assemblies to daily mindfulness, life skills projects and parent workshops.

About Meritton Education:

With the rigorous English National and Cambridge International programmes as core curriculums, students are provided with a well-rounded learning experience that fully meets their social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs. Our enquiry-based learning approach further develops reflection and critical thinking skills.

All of Meritton’s teachers meet our qualifications and have passed our selection criteria. They are experienced educators and native speakers of English. The majority of our teachers are British, with others currently coming from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, and the United States.

About Meritton 2

What Does Meritton Mean?

Meritton, meaning “the town of merits,” was created as a place that nurtures each learner’s character, giving them the space to learn, grow, stumble, bounce back, and move forward. Every event, activity, and lesson is grounded in shared values.

When the time comes for our learners to leave the gates, they carry the values of this place like seeds, ready to flourish wherever they go. In doing so, they shape not only their own lives but also the lives of those they encounter.
